A day by day guide of microbalding aftercare

May 22, 2023

After having your eyebrows microbladed to get the desired shape and thickness, it is now time to look after them. Here at Laelia Brows, we want to ensure you maintain your beautiful brows. Therefore, it is imperative that you support the microblading healing process by following an appropriate aftercare regime.

Day by day, the microblading healing process progresses, along with a little help and support from yourself and us. Your microblading healing requires a little patience but by following the hints below, you will achieve  your perfect brows.

Initially, your will experience some redness. Following this, the area will scab over. This can be difficult as the brows get itchy and dry with the scabs. It is very tempting to rub the eyebrow area but don’t! Instead, use the Laelia Brows Aftercare kit to keep the microbladed area comfortable and help with dry or flaky skin.

Following the microblading session, the brow pigment will look heavy. The following day, you will begin to see the colour darken. Later in the healing process, you may get uneven pigment colour. As your skin naturally exfoliates, the pigment can appear to be fading. Do not worry, this will all even out.

Once your brow has healed, you may require a slight touch up. For this, we schedule a touch up appointment at the salon around six weeks following the first procedure.

Microblading aftercare is extremely important and the success of the treatment relies on it to a great extent, so you must take it seriously and follow the instructions religiously. By adhering to the aftercare instructions, you will create an environment for your skin to properly heal. Since the procedure creates tiny wounds on the skin, proper aftercare for microblading also reduces the risk of infections or complications.

Day 1
One to two hours after your treatment, wet the brow area with warm water and use a gentle cleanser (Cetaphil, Cerevae or Ponds are recommended) to gently wash in a circular motion towards the temples. Apply a rice grain size portion of the aftercare ointment to your brows to moisturise. Your therapist may recommend additional cleansing, please follow the advice given in your appointment.

Days 2 to 4
Each day repeat the cleansing and aftercare ointment procedure morning, noon and night, remembering to be as gentle as possible.

Days 5 to 10
Five days after treatment stop washing and moisturising your brows. Use the supplied visor to prevent your brows getting wet when showering. Leave your brows completely alone. During this time your brows will most likely begin to flake. It is important not to wash the area or apply aftercare ointment and especially do not touch or pick at them – allow the skin to naturally flake off.

10 days after treatment
Any flaking or scabbing should have finished. At this stage the pigment may appear faded, don’t panic, the colour will slowly re-saturate. You may now recommence your normal cleansing and moisturising regime. If your brows after still scabbing, you may wash them and apply some of your aftercare ointment to help soften the skin and recommence your normal routine.

4 to 5 weeks after treatment
Congratulations – your brows should now be healed. The pigment will be settled and you will be able to see defined strokes. Your brow should be soft and natural looking.

6 weeks after treatment
You are ready for your touch-up appointment to perfect your new brows.

As you can see, the aftercare rules are very strict and will greatly affect the outcome of your brows. For this reason, plan the date your microblading appointment in advance. Bear in mind that your brows need some time to heal, the same aftercare applies for your touch up appointment as well.

The longevity of your microblading depends on your lifestyle and habits. The following tips will give your new brows the longest life:

  •  Continue to minimize sun exposure.
  • Lasers on treated areas can cause the ink to discolour.
  • Exfoliating and skin lightening products (chemical peels, alpha & beta hydroxy acids) promote ink loss, these products should be avoided on the treated area.
  • Any form of topical Vitamin A should be avoided on the forehead altogether.
  • Facial oils and natural skin oils on the forehead will result in blurred hair strokes over time.
