Microblading, also known as feathering, is a form of cosmetic tattooing. It uses a manual hand held needle to create realistic hair strokes in the skin to mimic brow hairs. This treatment is ideal for clients with normal to dry skin and small pores, who are willing and able to follow the strict aftercare instructions to maintain this highly desired style of semi-permanent makeup.
Microblading can also be used to create eyebrows where very little hair exists. Tiny needles are used to mimic hair strokes, so you achieve beautifully shaped and natural looking fuller brows. Microblading heals extremely natural and does not mimic the look of makeup, it is an enhancement to your brows, looking soft and natural when not wearing makeup.
Semi-permanent brows are the perfect solution for clients who have no brow hairs, to clients who have full brows but are wanting to fill in their sparse areas. We specialise in Microblading and Ombré Brows.

Ombré is ideal for young to mature clients with dry to oily skin types. This style of semi-permanent makeup requires less care and touch ups. Ombré shading creates more density in the skin to replicate realistic brows for clients who naturally have less brow hair or have very thick brow hairs microblading alone cannot mimic. This technique combines soft shading with microbladed hair strokes to to build more intense colour in sparse areas such as the arch and tail for an ombré effect.

Cosmetic tattooing is a two-step process. Your first appointment is used to build the foundation of your brows and to see how your skin reacts to and holds pigment and colour. All brow make-overs are conducted in a very careful and accurate way so that you are completely happy and sure of your design before we commence the tattoo. I keep the initial appointment very conservative to achieve my super natural style of cosmetic tattooing.
I believe that eyebrow tattooing should be enhance your brows, so they look natural and soft when you are not wearing makeup. We can always add density, saturation and tweak the colour at your touch up appointment. Taking a conservative approach at your first appointment allows Laelia Brows to see how your skin reacts, heals and holds pigment.
Your first appointment with Laelia Brows will take two to three hours. During this session :
• We will discuss the natural shape of your brows and your desired outcome for your brows, taking into account your skin type, skin tone/colour and your lifestyle. This will allow Laelia Brows to decide what treatment will heal and age the best for you. Our consultations are absolutely thorough, so all clients feel very comfortable and happy by the time we proceed to doing the brows in the same appointment.
• All three brow styles offered by Laelia Brows involve hair stoke tattooing. The pattern chosen will mimic your natural brow hair, resulting in a cosmetic tattoo that blends seamlessly your natural brows when healed.
• Microblading treatments require the application of a topical anaesthetic to numb the brows before we start. If we have decided on a fusion brows treatment I will tattoo the outline prior to numbing, this is necessary to achieve a crisp line, this will be done after the mapping and colour selection process. Clients generally report that this process does not hurt and is actually less uncomfortable than getting threaded or waxed, however everyone’s pain threshold is different. Once the outline is established the numbing cream will be applied before we continue any further.
• Whilst the numbing cream is taking effect I will explain in detail how to care for your brows. I will make sure you are 100% comfortable in caring for them as this is critical to getting the best result! Remember your aftercare is 50% of your final outcome and affects how your brows heal, so make sure you take great care!
• Once the numbing cream is working, I will begin to map your brows. During this process you will need to stay completely still and quiet, as any conversation will create movement. I also advise that you keep your eyes closed and to relax your face as this will help with the mapping procedure. You can bring a podcast or audio book to help you relax, some clients even fall asleep during this stage. I use the golden ratio mapping method, as I believe the highest point of the lower brow line is most important to pay attention to when lifting a brow. The final design of your new brow will take into consideration many factors, including your face anatomy and symmetry, your inspiration for how you would like your brow to look and how you naturally fill in your brows. If you have very unsymmetrical brows we will discuss whether to remove hairs to balance your brows. I will be able to guide you in this decision based on my professional experience and skills but only you can decide how much upkeep you are willing to commit to. In many cases clients with unsymmetrical brows also have unsymmetrical eyes. It is important to take this into account so the end result looks natural and in balance with you face rather a perfect brow shape that may look out of balance with your features. Many clients want to keep their brows low maintenance and I specialise in creating bespoke microblading to blend seamlessly with their natural brows without requiring hair removal/major brow shaping (there are many examples of my bespoke work on my Instagram).
• Once the brow shape has been drawn you will be asked to give final approval of the shape. This tattoo is on your face, so please be totally honest in your response. I will not be offended if you want to discuss changes. I can give expert advice based on my experience with hundreds of very happy clients. Your satisfaction is my number one priority when shaping your brows. Laelia will take as long as you need to discuss and draw your design to make it absolutely PERFECT.
• The outline/mapping will appear darker and bolder than what they will look like after the procedure. The outline needs to be done in black pencil and be very defined in order to set the boundaries of the tattoo. Seeing this outline can be overwhelming and shocking for some clients, I can show you before and after images of clients mapping compared to their final brows to reassure you if needed. Strokes in the front of the brows will shrink during the healing process about 30-40% so I will draw the strokes at the front of the brow and give you the option to keep the strokes at the front a little longer to compensate for this. If you are not comfortable with this at your first appointment, we can do this at your touch up.
• After we have your perfect brow shape mapped, I will then take a look at your natural brow hair colour and skin undertone to determine the most natural looking pigment colour for you. I will then let you ask any questions before we get started.
• Once you have approved the shape and colour we will start the procedure. I start by performing a “skeleton” pass on each brow. You may experience discomfort during this “skeleton” pass, however after this secondary numbing is applied as needed so you will remain comfortable during the rest of the procedure (please keep in mind everyone’s pain threshold varies). Multiple passes are required to get the right amount of colour saturation so when the brows are healed they are even, soft, and natural.
• When one brow is close to finished we can have a break so you can see the progress towards a soft natural brow. This is very reassuring for clients who may be feeling anxious about how their brows are looking.
• Once both brows are close to completion, I may sit you up to check symmetry and make any changes, again you can see the progress at this stage.
• Once I have completed the tattooing, you will have another opportunity to check the final brows before we end the procedure. Please be aware that your brows will appear bolder, darker and slightly swollen directly after the procedure - this is totally normal.
Four to six weeks after your first appointment you will attend a second Perfecting Session. It is important that you attend your second appointment in the four to six week timeframe so Laelia Brows can check how you have healed, assess the colour and shape of your new brows and make minor improvements – for example you may have noticed a couple of hair-strokes have lifted or you may decide to go a little darker. DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT
what to expect
If any of the following restrictions apply to you, you must not book for any cosmetic tattooing procedure:
- Under 18 years of age
- Pregnant
- Breast Feeding
- Hepatitis
- History of Keloids (consult with your doctor first)
- Diabetic (require doctor’s clearance)
- Chemotherapy (must be cleared by doctor and completely finished)
- Problems with healing
- Viral infections and/or diseases
- Blood disorder
- Allergy to latex
- Organ transplant
- Skin irritations or psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne etc.)
- Currently taking acne medication. You must be off Accutane for 6 to 12 months before qualifying.
- Heart conditions
- Any cold & flu or general illness can greatly affect the healing process and your final results.
- You must be off any sort of acne medication for at least six months.
- Please ensure your skin is as healthy as possible when coming to your appointment, this includes not being sunburnt or healing from any other sort of skin treatment such as peels or needling.
- Try to avoid using retinol around the brow area for two weeks prior to coming in.
- Botox, fillers laser/harsh skin treatments around the brow area and forehead should only be done 2 weeks prior to your appointment or two weeks after your appointment.
- Wash your hair prior to your brow appointment since hot showers are not recommended straight after your procedure and you will need to keep your brows dry for 10 days post your procedure. (Don’t worry you can still wash your hair in those two weeks!)
- No heavy exercising 24 hours prior to your appointment.
- No waxing, threading, tinting, henna or lamination for 3 weeks prior to your appointment.
- If you have an ideal shape and colour in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment on your phone. Remember once your brows are done healing after the initial session they will lighten 40-60% this is normal.
- You may fill in your eyebrows with makeup as you normally would before your appointment so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.
- We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment 1 week is preferred. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.
- Do not drink any alcohol or caffeine the night before and day of your appointment.
- It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.
- If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.

These activities may be resumed once the brows are completely done flaking:
- Increased sweating, exercise, strenuous activity
- Keep dry (besides washing) until completely healed. Aka no scabbing or flaking left. Usually 10 days.
- Clients still need to keep dry in the shower... steamy hot showers will cause the pores to open and scabs soften, so to be cautious, no extra steamy hot showers!! Avoid the water ESPECIALLY shampoo and conditioner running down
- Getting your brows/forehead wet outside of instructed washing (shower/saunas/jacuzzies/recreational water)
- Tanning bed use at any point after having brows tattooed will result in discoloration and premature fading.
- Natural UVB/UVA rays pose risk of discoloration. When brows are done flaking, wearing an SPF will prevent discoloration and fading.
- Always let estheticians know of any permanent makeup procedures before receiving peels, microneedling, microdermabrasion, or lasering services.
- Do not pick at flaking or possible scabbing. This will pull the ink out permanently.
- Wash hands prior to washing brows, and wash pillowcases to lower risk of infection.
- Avoid Retin-A, retinol, vitamin A, or oils on forehead, this must be continued going forward to avoid muddy/grey brows.
- No lotion, non-gentle cleansers, or makeup should be applied to the brows until they are done flaking.
WHAT TO AVOID while healing
- Day 1-4: One to two hours after your treatment, wash the area. Your therapist may recommend additional cleansing, please follow the advice given in your appointment. Each day repeat the cleansing and aftercare ointment procedure morning, noon and night, remembering to be as gentle as possible.
- Days 5-10: Stop washing and moisturising your brows. Use the supplied visor to prevent your brows getting wet when showering. Leave your brows completely alone. During this time your brows will most likely begin to flake. It is important not to wash the area or apply aftercare ointment and especially do not touch or pick at them - allow the skin to naturally flake off.
- Day 10: Any flaking or scabbing should have finished. At this stage the pigment may appear faded, don’t panic, the colour will slowly re-saturate. You may now recommence your normal cleansing and moisturising regime. If your brows after still scabbing you may wash them and apply some of your aftercare ointment to help soften the skin and recommence your normal routine.
- Week 4-5: Congratulations – your brows should now be healed. The pigment will be settled and you will be able to see defined strokes. Your brow should be soft and natural looking.
- Week 6: You are ready for your touch-up appointment to perfect your new brows!
What to expect
Microblading and Ombre techniques requires washing your brows 3 times daily for the first 4 days. Start the process 1-2 hours after your appointment by gently cleansing with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, such as Cerave, Cetaphil, or Ponds — avoiding oil-based, charcoal-infused, acidic, bar soap, and micellar varieties. Massage lightly in circular motions, pat the area dry carefully, and follow up with a small rice-grain-sized application of the provided ointment. After completing the 4-day regimen, allow your brows to naturally flake without further washing or ointment application. Flaking may vary and is not indicative of the final results, which differ based on skin type, lifestyle, and maintenance. Results are not guaranteed as individual skin reactions can vary.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
After treatment, it is normal to feel a sunburned sensation for a couple of days followed by dry, itchy, or tender skin. Brows will appear darker and bolder a few days after the appointment. During healing, they will lighten 30-40% and shrink in size. Healing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks. As your skin naturally exfoliates and regenerates, you will notice colour change, disappear, and reappear as they settle. Colour may flake off and appear softer and less visible but will slowly, reappear over the next few weeks.
This is all absolutely normal, and why two appointments may be necessary. Be patient and know that this is the part of the normal and expected healing process.
