WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING?

Cosmetic tattooing for your brows is a semi-permanent makeup treatment that can be used to fill in your eyebrows or create eyebrows where very little hair exists. Unlike a tattoo, the treatment is not permanent, lasting between one to three years. During your appointment, I will provide an in-depth brow mapping and facial analysis. We will work together to outline the perfect shape of brow that compliments both your facial structure and your personal style. We will also decide which type of semi-permanent eyebrow treatment will work best for you - Microblading or Ombré. Microblading, also known as Feather Stroke Tattoo, is a form of Cosmetic Tattooing.

  • Microblading uses a manual hand held needle to create realistic hair strokes in the skin to mimic brow hairs. This treatment is ideal for clients with normal to dry skin, small pores, and who are willing and able to follow the strict aftercare instructions to maintain this highly desired style of semi permanent makeup. Microblading can also be used to create eyebrows where very little hair exists. Tiny needles are used to mimic hair strokes, so you achieve beautifully-shaped and natural-looking fuller brows. Because it is not a permanent process, the colour will fade eventually, but your brows can last between one and three years, depending on your skin type. Those with oily skin will most likely fade out the pigment faster than someone with dry skin.
  • Ombré is ideal for young to mature clients with dry to oily skin types. This style of permanent makeup requires less care and touch ups. Ombré creates more density in the skin to replicate realistic brows for clients who naturally have less brow hair or have very thick brow hairs microblading alone cannot mimic. This technique will be combined with microbladed hair strokes.

CAN ANYONE GET COSMETIC TATTOOING?

Please be advised that cosmetic tattooing cannot be performed on clients with certain medical conditions and medications. If you have any questions, please email or call. Occasionally, a doctor's note can be accepted in special cases. If any of the following restrictions apply to you, you must not book for any cosmetic tattooing procedure:
  • Under 18 years of age
  • Pregnant
  • Breast Feeding
  • Hepatitis
  • History of Keloids (consult with your doctor first)
  • Diabetic (require doctor’s clearance)
  • Chemotherapy (must be cleared by doctor and completely finished)
  • Problems with healing
  • Viral infections and/or diseases
  • Blood disorder
  • Allergy to latex
  • Organ transplant
  • Skin irritations or psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne etc.)
  • Currently taking acne medication. You must be off Accutane for 6 to 12 months before qualifying.
  • Heart conditions
  • Any cold & flu or general illness can greatly affect the healing process and your final results.
  • Have consumed caffeine or alcohol within the day prior to your appointment
  • Have had botox injections on the forehead within 2 weeks of your appointment

how long does COSMETIC TATTOOING last?

Your new brows will last between 2-3 years, however a colour boost is recommended every 1 ½ to 2 years to refresh the colour of your brows and update any changes to the shape you desire. However, this timeframe can be affected by the use of harsh topical skin care around the area, skin type, unprotected UV exposure, and improper aftercare.  You picked Laelia Brows as your artist because you admire how soft her brows heal. Laelia Brows does not perform bold/makeup brows, if this is the style of cosmetic tattooing you're looking for you have picked the wrong artist. Laelia Brows strives to honour the skin's integrity above all else as this affects how the brows will age in the long term. Too much saturated pigment does not allow for fading over time resulting in the client being stuck with bold dark brows unless a removal is done.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND - Brow tattooing pigment is expected to fade away over the years unlike ink (leaving behind blue/peach undertones). Your skin however will never return to being ‘virgin skin’ after Cosmetic tattooing. Although the cosmetic tattooing will fade over time, there is no guarantee that 100% of the pigment will leave your skin.

Results and longevity may vary depending on different factors such as skin type, lifestyle and aftercare MAINTENANCE.
Each clients skin responds differently. We do not GUARANTEE the outcome of your results.

is the clinic AND PRODUCTS safe?

Yes, Laelia Brows adheres to strict hygiene standards and uses fully disposable tools and supplies to prevent cross-contamination. We are registered and operate in accordance with state and local council requirements and have procedures in place to maintain a sterile safe environment for our clients. The studio is cleaned and disinfected before and after each client.  At Laelia Brows we use only Permablend pigment lines. This pigment line is 100% safe and cruelty-free. These pigments have never been tested on animals and do not contain animal by-products.

CAN I HAVE a PATCH TEST?

A patch test for allergic reactions to the pigment can be provided on request and must be conducted 48 hrs prior to your procedure. We use pigments that are vegan friendly and EU certified.

WHAT IF I HAVE PREVIOUS TATTOOING FROM ANOTHER ARTIST?

We unfortunately do not take on clients with previous tattooing for microblading unless tattooing is nearly completely faded. Microblading cannot be done over old saturated brows as there is too much scar tissue and pigment to create the feathering affect. It is recommended to get removal done if brows are over saturated.

In some cases we can offer a fusion brow, however due scar tissue, good results cannot be promised and clients may need to pay for multiple touch up sessions to get their desired result.  To find out whether you are a eligible to be a Laelia Brows client please send through clear images of your brows without makeup, taken in natural lighting to our email or text our business mobile.

can you perform bold/makeup brows?

You picked Laelia Brows as your artist because you admire how soft her brows heal. Laelia Brows does not perform bold/makeup brows, if this is the style of cosmetic tattooing you're looking for you have picked the wrong artist. Laelia Brows strives to honour the skin's integrity above all else as this affects how the brows will age in the long term. Too much saturated pigment does not allow for fading over time resulting in the client being stuck with bold dark brows unless a removal is done. We want to keep the brows natural so you will have to apply makeup to them if you desire a more dramatic look (this is a good thing). Laelia Brows may refuse touch up appointments if a client is wanting a more dramatic look that we deem unsafe for the integrity of their brows.

WHAT TO EXPECT

will COSMETIC TATTOOING hurt?

While everyone's pain tolerance varies, topical numbing cream will be applied to the area prior to the treatment and continue to keep the area being treated numb during your procedure to keep you comfortable. Pain thresholds differ from person to person; however, every effort is made to keep you as comfortable as possible.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?

For most clients, a minimum of two treatments are usually needed, at least 6-8 weeks apart. Cosmetic tattooing is a 2-step process, your first appointment is used to build the foundation of your brows, see how your skin reacts and holds pigment, and color. I keep the initial appointment very conservative to achieve my super natural style of cosmetic tattooing.
After this you will have a 6 week perfecting appointment. Perfecting sessions are to add density, saturation, and tweak color if needed; I like to keep my style very natural and use the perfecting touch up to make only minor tweaks so your brows heal soft and natural.

Some skin types such as oily skin may require an additional touch-up which must take place 4-8 weeks after the initial touch up appointment, at a price of $70. Appointments made any later than 8 weeks it will be priced as a standard touch up.

what should i expect at my appointment?

Cosmetic tattooing is a two-step process. Your first appointment is used to build the foundation of your brows and to see how your skin reacts to and holds pigment and colour. All brow make-overs are conducted in a very careful and accurate way so that you are completely happy and sure of your design before we commence the tattoo. I keep the initial appointment very conservative to achieve my super natural style of cosmetic tattooing. We can always add density, saturation and tweak the colour at your touch up appointment. Taking a conservative approach at your first appointment allows Laelia Brows to see how your skin reacts, heals and holds pigment.

Your first appointment with Laelia Brows will take two to three hours. During this session:
  • We will discuss the natural shape of your brows and your desired outcome for your brows, taking into account your skin type, skin tone/colour and your lifestyle. This will allow Laelia Brows to decide what treatment will heal and age the best for you. Our consultations are absolutely thorough, so all clients feel very comfortable and happy by the time we proceed to doing the brows in the same appointment.
  • Microblading treatments require the application of a topical anaesthetic to numb the brows before we start. This is when I'll explain in detail how to care for your brows.
  • Once numb, I begin to map your brows. Once the brow shape has been drawn you will be asked to give final approval of the shape. The final design of your new brow will take into consideration many factors, including your face anatomy and symmetry, your inspiration for how you would like your brow to look and how you naturally fill in your brows. If you have unsymmetrical brows, we will discuss whether to remove hairs to balance your brows. I will be able to guide you in this decision based on my professional experience and skills but only you can decide how much upkeep you are willing to commit to.
  • I will determine the most natural looking pigment colour for you based on your natural brow hair colour and skin undertone. Once you've approved both the shape and colour, we will start the procedure. You'll be able to take a break and see the progress for reassurance! We want to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible.
  • Once I have completed the tattooing, you will have another opportunity to check the final brows before we end the procedure. Please be aware that your brows will appear bolder, darker and slightly swollen directly after the procedure - this is totally normal.
  • Four to six weeks after your first appointment you will attend a second Perfecting Session. It is important that you attend your second appointment in the four to six week timeframe so Laelia Brows can check how you have healed, assess the colour and shape of your new brows and make minor improvements – for example you may have noticed a couple of hair-strokes have lifted or you may decide to go a little darker. This can all be addressed at the Perfecting Session.

IS THERE ANYTHING I need to do to prepare?

Before your appointment you will be sent a thorough pre-care email outlining everything you need to know before your appointment. Please take your time to read this and contact us before your appointment if you have any questions. It is also recommended to read our before & after care information in FAQS on our website as this goes over all pre-care information, how to prepare for you appointment, as well as preparing you for the aftercare.

  • You must be off any sort of acne medication for at least six months.
  • Please ensure your skin is as healthy as possible when coming to your appointment, this includes not being sunburnt or healing from any other sort of skin treatment such as peels or needling.
  • Try to avoid using retinol around the brow area for two weeks prior to coming in.
  • Botox, fillers laser/harsh skin treatments around the brow area and forehead should only be done 2 weeks prior to your appointment or two weeks after your appointment.
  • Wash your hair prior to your brow appointment since hot showers are not recommended straight after your procedure and you will need to keep your brows dry for 10 days post your procedure. (Don’t worry you can still wash your hair in those two weeks!)
  • No heavy exercising 24 hours prior to your appointment.
  • No waxing, threading, tinting, henna or lamination for 3 weeks prior to your appointment.
  • If you have an ideal shape and colour in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment on your phone. Remember once your brows are done healing after the initial session they will lighten 40-60% this is normal.
  • You may fill in your eyebrows with makeup as you normally would before your appointment so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.
  • We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment 1 week is preferred. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.
  • Do not drink any alcohol or caffeine the night before and day of your appointment.
  • It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.
  • If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.

DO YOU ACCEPT PAYMENT PLANS?

We accept Afterpay to finalise your remaining balance in the studio on the day of your appointment. Please ensure you have downloaded the App on your phone & been approved for purchases. Please note that Afterpay can only be used if the balance owing is over $200.

HOW DO I BOOK MY APPOINTMENT? I'M READY!

You can book online right here! We are booked back to back with clients so the quickest way is online. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required upon booking as a new client.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

what can i expect after my procedure?

Following your procedure with Laelia Brows you will receive a detailed aftercare pack with everything you need to take care of your new brows while they are healing. After treatment, it is normal to feel a sunburned sensation for a couple of days followed by dry, itchy, or tender skin. Brows will appear darker and bolder a few days after the appointment. During healing, they will lighten 30-40% and shrink in size. Healing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks. As your skin naturally exfoliates and regenerates, you will notice colour change, disappear, and reappear as they settle. Colour may flake off and appear softer and less visible but will slowly, reappear over the next few weeks. This is all absolutely normal, and why two appointments may be necessary. Be patient and know that this is the part of the normal and expected healing process.

  • Day 1-4: One to two hours after your treatment, wash the area. Your therapist may recommend additional cleansing, please follow the advice given in your appointment. Each day repeat the cleansing and aftercare ointment procedure morning, noon and night, remembering to be as gentle as possible.
  • Days 5-10: Stop washing and moisturising your brows. Use the supplied visor to prevent your brows getting wet when showering. Leave your brows completely alone. During this time your brows will most likely begin to flake. It is important not to wash the area or apply aftercare ointment and especially do not touch or pick at them - allow the skin to naturally flake off.
  • Day 10: Any flaking or scabbing should have finished. At this stage the pigment may appear faded, don’t panic, the colour will slowly re-saturate. You may now recommence your normal cleansing and moisturising regime. If your brows after still scabbing you may wash them and apply some of your aftercare ointment to help soften the skin and recommence your normal routine.
  • Week 4-5: Congratulations – your brows should now be healed. The pigment will be settled and you will be able to see defined strokes. Your brow should be soft and natural looking.
  • Week 6: You are ready for your touch-up appointment to perfect your new brows!

HOW CAN I WASH MY BROWS?

Microblading and Ombre techniques requires washing your brows 3 times daily for the first 4 days. Start the process 1-2 hours after your appointment by gently cleansing with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, such as Cerave, Cetaphil, or Ponds — avoiding oil-based, charcoal-infused, acidic, bar soap, and micellar varieties. Massage lightly in circular motions, pat the area dry carefully, and follow up with a small rice-grain-sized application of the provided ointment. After completing the 4-day regimen, allow your brows to naturally flake without further washing or ointment application. Flaking may vary and is not indicative of the final results, which differ based on skin type, lifestyle, and maintenance. Results are not guaranteed as individual skin reactions can vary.

what should i avoid while healing?

Factors such as sun exposure, the regeneration of skin cells over time, skin type, the choice of colour, and bleeding during the procedure will affect the final result of your treatment. When the skin bleeds more during the procedure, pigment is pushed out of the skin, therefore retention is poor. To avoid this make sure you follow the strict pre care protocol given by Laelia Brows. Please refer to Precare in the main menu for more information.  Long term, your new brow tattoo will fade and shrink over time, therefore yearly touch ups are advised to keep your tattoo looking fresh.

These activities may be resumed once the brows are completely done flaking:
  • Increased sweating, exercise, strenuous activity
  • Keep dry (besides washing) until completely healed. Aka no scabbing or flaking left. Usually 10 days.
  • Clients still need to keep dry in the shower... steamy hot showers will cause the pores to open and scabs soften, so to be cautious, no extra steamy hot showers!! Avoid the water ESPECIALLY shampoo and conditioner running down
  • Getting your brows/forehead wet outside of instructed washing (shower/saunas/jacuzzies/recreational water)
  • Tanning bed use at any point after having brows tattooed will result in discoloration and premature fading.
  • Natural UVB/UVA rays pose risk of discoloration. When brows are done flaking, wearing an SPF will prevent discoloration and fading.
  • Always let estheticians know of any permanent makeup procedures before receiving peels, microneedling, microdermabrasion, or lasering services.
  • Do not pick at flaking or possible scabbing. This will pull the ink out permanently.
  • Wash hands prior to washing brows, and wash pillowcases to lower risk of infection.
  • Avoid Retin-A, retinol, vitamin A, or oils on forehead, this must be continued going forward to avoid muddy/grey brows.
  • No lotion, non-gentle cleansers, or makeup should be applied to the brows until they are done flaking.
