Microblading is designed to make your brow routine easier, not eliminate it completely.
Once your brows have healed, we still encourage you to use your favourite brow products and continue tinting your natural brow hairs. Microblading works beautifully alongside both, giving you a soft, natural-looking foundation to build from.
Think of microblading as the starting point filling sparse areas, enhancing definition and creating a shape that works with your natural brows. Your makeup and tint can then be used to add as much or as little definition as you like. In fact, many clients still use brow makeup or tint their natural brow hairs after microblading. You may simply find that you need much less of it than you did before.
A light application of pencil, powder or gel can add extra definition, deepen the colour for a particular occasion or fill in areas where your natural brow hair is particularly sparse. For some clients, their microblading may be enough on its own for everyday wear, while others still enjoy adding a little makeup when they want a more defined look.
The key is to work with your microblading rather than over it. Following the shape and direction of your existing hair strokes helps maintain the natural effect of the treatment, while drawing an entirely new shape over the top can make the brows appear heavier or less natural.
WHAT ABOUT MAKEUP WHILE MY BROWS ARE HEALING?
This is where the rules are different.
During the healing period, we ask clients to avoid applying makeup directly over the tattooed area for approximately 10 days.
Your brows are still healing during this time, so keeping makeup and other products away from the area allows the skin to heal undisturbed and helps minimise unnecessary irritation. Applying makeup while the skin is still open can introduce bacteria and increase the risk of infection, skin and makeup products can also interfere with the healing process and affect how the pigment settles, potentially contributing to uneven or altered colour.
Once the skin has completely healed after 10 days you can return to your usual brow makeup routine.
CAN I STILL TINT MY BROWS?
Yes, and brow tint can actually work beautifully alongside microblading.
We recommend waiting 2 weeks after your brow tattooing appointment before tinting your natural brow hairs.
Once your brows have had those first two weeks to heal, tinting can help blend your natural brow hairs with the tattooed strokes and create a more cohesive overall result. This can be particularly helpful if you have lighter or finer natural brow hairs, as tint makes those hairs more visible and allows them to work together with the microblading.
The reason we don’t recommend tinting sooner is simply that your skin is still in the early stages of healing. Waiting those two weeks allows the skin to settle before introducing the tint.
MICROBLADING IS A FOUNDATION, NOT A RESTRICTION
One of the benefits of natural microblading is that it doesn’t dictate how you wear your brows.
You might wear them completely bare on a casual day, add a little pencil for extra definition or tint your natural hairs when you want your brows to appear fuller. Your routine can change depending on how you want your brows to look.
The microblading simply gives you a natural structure to work from.
Microblading should make your brow routine easier and more flexible not take it away completely. Once your brows have healed, you can continue to use the products you love, with your microblading providing a soft, natural foundation underneath.
